HAPPY JULY 5TH.
OMG, I was around for the nation’s bicentennial 50 years ago. Despite Ford occupying the WH, the event was fantastic and fun. Everyone in the apartment house I lived in in Westwood was stoned out of their minds, and then we went to Venice Beach to watch fireworks.
Yesterday’s extremely partisan (read: MAGA) celebration opened with a number of KKK-inspired imbeciles (wearing cowardly white gators over their faces) marching through DC bellowing, “Reclaim America! Reclaim America!” And, natch, there were Confederate flags intermixed with all the Old Glories.
Trump then, with his reverse Midas touch, unleashed over 850,000 fireworks into the night sky—which has challenged the respiratory health of Americans (and their pets) all along the east coast.
It occurred to me this morning that Trump is slowly working his way through all the astrological elements. He’s poisoned the reflecting pool. And cemented over the Rose Garden. Defaced the marble facade of the Kennedy Center. And, last night, polluted the air in DC. I can’t wait to see him wrangle with fire. (Remember, this is a pre-dementia, pre-Alzheimer’s creature with access to the nuclear codes).
