I CREATED THIS MIX over a decade ago—a collection of hymns, chants, medieval carols, and songs—to mirror and celebrate this sacred moment in the Earth’s time cycle.
A lot of my readers over the years have emailed me to ask where they could ‘find’ the mix after it was unceremoniously deleted from my old Mixcloud account.
Well, after a lot of seemingly senseless sleuthing on an old laptop, I found the original MP4 in a last-place-you’d-look folder of photos.
The solstice, the night of the longest night, marks the return of luminosity as winter begins in the Northern Hemisphere and radiance gains prominence (most regions gain about 1-2 minutes of daylight each day.)
Light has always symbolized awareness and consciousness, as well as life-giving, creative properties. And in a real way we are each bodies of light, with the Sun as both our source and sustenance. Astrology is the art that tracks and delineates the movement of light through our solar system.
For many astrologers, the winter solstice is a demarcation that defines the start of the new year. How we experience the longest night provides an essential hint as to the theme or signature of the year ahead. Both universally and personally. It’s my wish that this mix of music can slide you into a vector that’s off the beaten path, especially for this time of year.
Love and Merry Christmas, folks.
