Weekend at WOODRUFF's
New cats, recommendations, discounts, and more...
“I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.” — Jean Cocteau
I HAD A BANG-UP time yesterday with astrologer Dabney Lawless over on her YouTube channel, Lawless Astrology. We took on the new tranche of Epstein files by studying the transits to both Trump’s and the US’s natal charts. Toss in the incendiary Scorpio new Moon on the 20th, and, wow, fasten your seatbelts. (And don’t ask me how, but somehow Lorena Bobbitt made her way into our convo.)
Seven more weeks until 2026, and I've started to finalize my music picks for best new and old music of 2025 in my Luigiesque playlist over on Spotify.
887 tracks and 60 hours of playback. Wheeeeeeeeee.
You can follow along here. Be sure to set playback to ‘shuffle’ for maximum enjoyment.
Different photo, same cats! It’s been almost ten years since my Bengal Liliuokalani died. As I’m sure any pet parent will tell you, taking your animal in for euthanasia (as I did with Lili) is soul-wrenching. I was such a wreck after she died I told myself, “OK, that’s it. I can’t ever experience this again.” (The dreaded ‘shot’ at the vet’s office).
I’m not sure why or what prompted me exactly (astrologically, I’m pretty sure it related to Jupiter transiting my Sun), but I thought I’d just ‘take a look’ at the cats that were up for adoption at Vashon’s pet protector shelter. And then, boom, you know how it goes. I saw these two brothers, and that was it.
I kept the names that the foster family that was housing them had given them: George (after Curious George, and Jesus Christ, is that fitting—he’s discovered items in my house that I didn’t even know had gone missing) and Maze, because of the crazy-gorgeous patterns on his coat.
As the boys are only 7 months old, this is, well, it’s the equivalent of having two teenagers romping around the house non-stop (thank god they can’t drive). I’m counting the weeks until the post-kitten-into-adult stage kicks in. But regardless, they are both charmers.
This weekend only. 25% off discounts to WOODRUFF, my newsletter on Substack.

We now have FIVE rescue cats. We can't seem to stop lol. And yes, we have been at the shot point too.
I love cat people.
And the Lorena Bobbit part had me howling!
Lost my beautiful Russian Blue, Olivia, in August of 2022…she was my shadow for 17 years. She actually chose me when we visited the animal shelter, tapping me on the shoulder to get my attention. I understand your reluctance to open yourself up to another animal, loving and then possibly losing it. I asked Olivia to “come back to me, before “that shot.” Two months later I adopted another kitten, as I found myself so lonely without my “Livy,” a little calico kitten that we named Phoebe. She’s also my shadow, and strangely very much like Olivia in many ways…born two days after we put Olivia down. Enjoy your new “children!” They certainly enrich our lives in so many ways!!
