THIS TWO-PART CAST plays off astrologer Jessica Murray’s use of the term ‘fog of war’ to highlight our current astrological moment. How do we orient and then move forward within the mysterious, sketchy alchemy of the ongoing Saturn-Neptune conjunction? As the two planets move back and forth across the nadir in the United States birth chart, the country is trapped in a hankering for the past, as typified by MAGA. At the same time, activists are attempting to feel their way forward into the future.
‘Fog of war’ describes the confusion and lack of distinct information during battle. Commanders often don’t know exactly where the enemy is or what they’re doing, making decisions difficult. The description also borrows video game nomenclature, where it points to hidden parts of a map that players must explore to gain an advantage. As I see it, that gaming take encapsulates many of us today—how we’re poised, waiting to identify parts of the narrative that require clearheaded activism.
